Perfect Imperfection
I am a perfectionist by nature. I’ve always wanted my artwork to be flawless, overanalyzing every line, brush stroke and detail. I’ve given up on some illustrations that, in hindsight, turned out pretty darn good. Now that I have a full-time job and am a dad, I can rarely block off huge chunks of time or pull all-nighters when I’m inspired to draw, making it very hard to get things perfect like in the good old days. As a result, my art has evolved into a somewhat intentionally sloppy style. In other words, instead of stressing about every single detail, my time limitations have forced me to loosen up and embrace the little imperfections that give each piece of art character.
While I created this doodle with my new found attitude towards creating art in mind, I think ‘perfect imperfection’ can apply to many different aspects of life. Maybe the world would be a happier place if we started embracing uniqueness.
